Issues

Xenith published its first issue on July 9, 1997. Back then, we were nothing but a raggedy e-zine that printed everything it received. I was 16 at the time, bored with school and bored with life. Feeling alone and without creative peers in my conservative parochial school, I created an outlet for myself.

Xenith published 42 issues between 1997 and 2004, all dedicated to showcasing the writing of my generation. When I look at the entirety of the back library, I can’t honestly say that I feel satisfied, contentwise, until the very latter day issues. It took that long for both the ‘zine–and the generation–to really hit its stride.

While the bulk of the issues may be embarrassing to look back on, they are a clear chart of the creative growth and maturation of an entire generation, and I think that’s where their true value lies.

Publication of Xenith issues slowed and then stopped completely in 2004, following the release of a trio of “Best Of” issues. Life and youthful exploration got in the way. I missed it, though, and always had vague plans to resume publication at some point.

That point was May 2008. Given the four-year gap between issues and the general improvement and maturation of the writing, the issues have been split into two volumes. Volume I contains issues from 2004 and earlier and Volume II comprises issues from 2008 and beyond.

Enjoy your stay.
