I use it for the same reason you do, but also to just relieve all the random ideas and stories floating in my brain. I have random short stories in my (moleskine :D) journal, and it's funny because now I want to go further with some of them. Nothing better than a journal. Something about the physical act of writing with a pen is so much more satisfying than typing... It's not practical, obviously, to write a novel in a Moleskine, but for the little breakthroughs that make all the difference, nothing's better. And yes... it is equally helpful for me. I've filled up several volumes of notebooks, and sometimes refer back to remember how a specific problem was solved — not the final solution, but the steps I went through to get there.
