Someday I'm going to describe to you this idea I have of my Great American Novel. I've pretty much decided not to write it until I have the resources to spend a year traveling the country followed by another year of nothing but writing. I don't know all that much about it yet, but I look forward to discussing it with you. In the meantime I have other projects. <em>Rebellious Bird</em> is slowly materializing. One of my professors once said that a novelist's career is like chainsmoking, and I'm beginning to understand this, because the minute I finish this one, I'll be starting the next. Anyway. I don't really have anything to say. I was just caught by that word, American. It's something I think about a lot, actually--American. There's just so much there. American, yes.
