Allergic To Hope

By Jon H. Jones • Jul 7th, 2008 • Category: Music for the Genteel Savage

These two tracks have been on my maybe list for a while.  I think originally I chose them in a sincere way, but lately when I listen to them I can’t hear anything but glorious, glorious sarcasm.

Anyway, listen however you like, sincere or cynical.  They’re pretty fun either way.

“I Want A World” by Jim Kirk and the TM Singers, followed by “We Are The World” by U.S.A. For Africa.

Jon H. Jones is braver than anybody thought, it would seem, especially himself: with no money and no job and no plans, he packed a suitcase and took a bus across the country. Las Vegas is more than he could have hoped for, and he plans to get under its skin and make it his home. He's one of those creative sorts, you know, a writer and photographer and so on, and he likes to live his life the same way--get struck by inspiration and have faith that if he keeps working at it, something amazing will happen. So far it always has. Life's funny that way.

  1. … you would think that anyone with a name like “Jim Kirk and the TM Singers” would have to be a joke, but apparently not. Scary, even for 1980.
