“Einstein on the Beach”, “History of Sycorax”
By Jon H. Jones • Apr 22nd, 2008 • Category: Music for the Genteel SavageAn excerpt from Philip Glass’s 1976 opera Einstein on the Beach; “History of Sycorax” by Michael Nyman, 1991.
Jon H. Jones is braver than anybody thought, it would seem, especially himself: with no money and no job and no plans, he packed a suitcase and took a bus across the country. Las Vegas is more than he could have hoped for, and he plans to get under its skin and make it his home.
He's one of those creative sorts, you know, a writer and photographer and so on, and he likes to live his life the same way--get struck by inspiration and have faith that if he keeps working at it, something amazing will happen. So far it always has. Life's funny that way.
