“Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja”
By Jon H. Jones • Apr 20th, 2008 • Category: Music for the Genteel SavageTwo versions of Papageno’s aria “Der Vogelfänger bin ich ja” (”The birdcatcher am I”), from Mozart’s opera Die Zauberflote:
First, a traditional version, the details of which are sadly unknown to me. Next, a jazz version fron 1964, “Samba Papageno” by Gershon Kingsley.
Jon H. Jones is braver than anybody thought, it would seem, especially himself: with no money and no job and no plans, he packed a suitcase and took a bus across the country. Las Vegas is more than he could have hoped for, and he plans to get under its skin and make it his home.
He's one of those creative sorts, you know, a writer and photographer and so on, and he likes to live his life the same way--get struck by inspiration and have faith that if he keeps working at it, something amazing will happen. So far it always has. Life's funny that way.
